About

Elissa Wenthe is an artist, mother, amateur gardener, and hobby farmer based in Brookings, South Dakota. Her artwork is deeply inspired by the surrounding landscapes and the themes of memory and place. Through her practice, she seeks to capture the fleeting beauty of nature, using the irregularities and patterns found in decaying, wilting, and dormant forms to evoke a sense of permanence in what is transient.

Elissa's art reflects her connection to the natural world, drawing on the unique idiosyncrasies found in the cycles of growth and decay. Her work celebrates the beauty of imperfection, and the quiet yet powerful transformations that happen in the natural environment.

Elissa lives on a farm with her husband, Andrew, and their four children—Annaliese, Juliet, Cormac, and Dashel—where she continues to find inspiration in the landscapes of the South Dakota countryside.
